The Pray for America Tour has come to an end, right here in Atlanta, Georgia and what a day of prayer it was! Mrs. Shirley Dobson joined the tour along with Pastor Paul Palmer, of the Atlanta Dream Center, and Dr. Michael Youssef.

We began the day bright and early at the City of Refuge. For those of you unfamiliar with this incredible facility, it began as a vision for reaching out to homeless women and children in the Atlanta area. Today, 17 years later, it is a 5-acre campus of renovated warehouse district that not only continues to rescue women from the streets, but serves as a family rehabilitation center, school and place of refuge for women who have been abused and used in the sex trade. As we prayer-walked the facility with Steve Grimes and Rhonda Deel, they shared with us that over 4,000 volunteers and 40 staff members were needed to support the 300 daily residents with education, food, clothing, counseling and equipping to graduate them to the next level with both physical and spiritual healing. It was a humbling morning indeed.

Pastor Paul, from the Atlanta Dream Center, then mobilized a group and we headed over the Atlanta Capitol Building where we were scheduled to meet with Mayor Reed and Governor Deal. When we arrived, they had reserved a space right next to the building for the bus. Our group filed out and headed to the Capitol steps where more than 40 people had assembled to join with us in prayer. On those steps we prayed for over 2 hours for each of the seven areas of influence in our country, even lifting up the needs of those who serve the broken in the shadows of the city.

As we began to pray for the families of the city, a couple boldly stepped forward. They had two beautiful little girls and seemed to radiate the joy of the Lord. They entered our circle of prayer and shared a testimony that brought us all to tears. The husband, Nathanael, had been saved by the blood of Jesus and had left a life of homosexuality. In fact, the place of his decision was a nightclub where he now leads an outreach from because the club closed down and is now a downtown church. His wife had been sexually abused and as a result had agreed to three separate abortions. Both of them found healing and found each other through Christ. He says his struggle is still very real and her pains are still very deep, but in Christ they are able to overcome and lift the other up in the freedom they found in His love. It was a beautiful story of redemption. “And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ by the Spirit of our God.” I Corinthians 6:11

We hugged and encouraged all who joined us in this powerful prayer to then follow us over to the Church of the Apostle where Dr. Michael Youssef teaches. There, more than 400 people joined with us to celebrate the stories of 100 days on the road. We then prayed with one mind and one voice with praise to God the Father. We observed a time of respect and silence for 9/11 and then launched into a 1-hour prayer rally for our nation to restore our foundations as One Nation Under God!

Before the bus departed for South Carolina – back to Champion Coach – Pastor Paul pulled us aside and shared with that while we were praying, a prostitute who we had prayed with yesterday – who had refused to leave the streets though she was badly beaten and crying profusely…called Pastor Paul and said “I am ready…I am ready to stop, please help me.” Pastor Paul, left our company and I watched him drive away, like a lone warrior racing back to the front lines to go save another soul by bandaging wounds and showing unconditional love. He is a hero as are all who lay down their lives in service of the King of Kings. It is not about us. It is all about Him who first loved us. It was an appropriate way to end the Pray for America Tour.

The journey is over, but given the momentum and the enthusiasm, we suspect that in some way, it is only the beginning. Already, Mr. Woody White and Mr. Craig Dance are looking for ways to help finance another tour in early 2014. We still have 17 states to minister to and many more communities in need.
